Who doesn't love National Avocado Day??

Happy National Avocado Day! There are so many reasons to celebrate avocados as they are an extremely versatile fruit. They are great in anything from chocolate mousse to the popular avo toast to toppings on salads or sandwiches.

While you may only see a few types of avocados in your local grocery store, hundreds of varieties grow around the world, each unique in their taste and size. They offer fiber, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals. Another added benefit is the fat in avocados can help boost the absorption of vitamins from other foods.

To know if an avocado is ripe, give it a squeeze. Ripe, ready-to-eat avocados will be firm but yield gentle pressure. You can also pull out the stem and if the inside is a light brown color, the avocado should be ripe.
